Nunumama Black Mothers Learning Circle is an online community and support network for black moms who are (or will be) homeschooling, unschooling, worldschooling, considering a change from their children’s current education process, wanting to augment their home life with more family-centered learning practices, or exploring all the possibilities in between.
We are currently preparing to launch in January 2020 and invite all who identify as black mothers and are in the process of creating/questioning/discovering what is the best path for their families to join us for an intimate learning and resource sharing experience.
Nunumama is a mother-centered space, meaning that we amplify our needs, dreams, and freedoms as mothers within the labors of designing, facilitating, and producing learning opportunities for our children and families. Ideal participants are passionate about family-centered learning and excited to build with and be in community with other black mothers.
Black mothers of all ages and stages are welcome to join Nunumama’s circle. It’s never too early—or too late—to start exploring our options! Nunumama is here for the future-future mommies, the pregnant mommies, the newborn mommies, the auntie-mommies, the godmommies, the grandmommies, and the elder-mommies too!
Our calendar and programming format will be largely shaped by the mothers who join as active members of the Nunumama circle. If the intention and vision of Nunumama strongly resonates with you, please fill out the form below so we can start growing our community with your interests and ideas at the center too.

virtual gatherings
Meet online for intimate, honest dialogues with other black mothers who are just as eager as you are to have deep and meaningful exchanges about family-centered learning. Share your journey, slowly unpack all these terminologies and definitions—So what does it mean to homeschool? Unschool? Deschool?!?—listen to other moms talk about why they’re on this path too, learn new perspectives, ask tough questions in a safe space, swap ideas, open up about what’s been working out well—and also what’s been driving you bananas!—explore collaborations and potential family partnerships, make new friends, dream new dreams...and more!
reading together
Engage in dynamic discussions about the monthly book/reading selections that support us in finding and articulating greater clarity around what our personal motivations are and what we hope to create for ourselves and our families. Suggest resources for further study and participate in curating a list of culturally relevant authors and titles for our young people and ourselves.
family-centered learning resources
Grow your awareness and explore strategies for accessing more learning tools that can enhance your family-centered learning process. Explore the diversity of learning approaches and methodologies, compare curriculum models—including the no-curriculum model!—review educational products, and test out learning materials with other moms who might be asking questions and considering factors that are also relevant to you and your family. We’ll also share awesome homeschooling and unschooling podcasts, films, talks, articles and other media with each other.
let’s talk about it!
