These are pieces of movement constellations from the Dancing Mother creations. Featured in each share are videos of dance practices and performances, screen stills and archival photos, dance stories, short films, and moving picture reels of Mother Mother’s soft-time performances, space activations in public spaces, and select writings about her performance work.

Elemental

Elemental is an experimental, soft-time, performance installation that inhabits pockets of possibility for a multitudinous mothering entity who is re/discovering the raw movements of life and her body soon after giving birth to her 5th child. Sourcing fragments of time, and attached to or in close physical proximity of one or more children at all times, the dancing mother activates everyday spaces as transient laboratories where she can dance, dream, and feel into the expansiveness of a world that will one day be big enough, and soft enough, to make space for all of her.

Snacktime Booty

Mother Mother dances to one of her favorite go-go anthems of all time while hungry munchkins demand that her dance joy not interrupt the distribution of their snacks. Healing from a protostar birth, Mother Mother intentionally documents the unseen labors of her belly and bodyscape, as she makes peace with the life that is no longer growing there.

Oh Freedom

Mother Mother sings Mother Wah—’s song, Oh Freedom, and dances inside the long labors of Mother Wah—’s dreaming. Mother Wah— is one of Mother Mother’s ancestral mothers who is in bondage while crossing the Atlantic Ocean in the 18th century. Heart-sickened over the separation from her older children when they were kidnapped from the riverside, Mother Wah— defiantly clings to a thread of hope.
